December's Full Cold Moon
During December, the winter cold fastens its grip, and nights are at their longest and darkest, giving this month's full moon the name "Cold Moon." December's full moon is also sometimes referred to as the Moon Before Yule. Yet another term, "Long Night Moon" is doubly appropriate because the midwinter night is indeed long, and because the moon is above the horizon for a long time. The midwinter full moon has a high trajectory across the sky because it is opposite a low sun.

Hauntingly beautiful pictures here Tammy. I too am crazy about the moon and trees at night and in the morning. I've been posting pictures similar to these recently, as well. The moon has just been phenomenal! I see an art quilt here - I love to do trees in threadpainting!

Tabby - as always beautiful shots from your camera!!! Did you know the night we had that full moon, it was closer than it will be again for like 8 years? Did you notice when the moon rose last evening and the evening before how very large it was? Here in WV we had too much cloud cover on Friday for the full moon but Saturday night.. it looked like something out of a science fiction movie! Amazing!

Your pictures are just great Tammy! Love the one you played with in photoshop too...definitely icy and blue!

I saw the Long Night Moon too. It was so beautiful and HUGE!!!

BTW girl...waving your magic snow wand worked! We woke to snow on Sunday (4") and are getting hammered with an artic blast for the entire week! We aren't going to escape the teens or twenty degree weather through the week. It is freezing outside. It is 25 today and 9 with the wind chill factor! Wed/Thursday it is going to snow about 6" and Sunday looks like it could be huge...maybe up to 12 inches and/or freezing rain...we'll see! They are watching Sunday closely.

Next time I want some snow...I know who to call!!! ~wink...and totally smiling~ xo ~me
